Palm Wood Project In Al-Ahsa Aims To Boost Sustainability And Local Industry Growth
The National Center for Palms and Dates has launched a project in Al-Ahsa aimed at using palm raw materials to boost environmental sustainability. This initiative is set to produce 8,000 tons of treated materials each year, marking a significant step in localizing palm resource use within specific industries and fostering economic growth.
Environment, Water and Agriculture Deputy Minister for Agriculture Eng. Ahmad Alayadh highlighted the project's importance, stating it represents a major achievement in industrial and environmental progress for Saudi Arabia. "By leveraging local palm raw materials, the project successfully localizes the plastic wood industry, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030," he said.

The project is implemented by a specialized company focusing on creating innovative panels that blend palm raw materials with plastic. These panels are versatile and can be used in various products such as building cladding, outdoor flooring, doors, and decorative elements. With an annual capacity of 8,000 tons, this initiative stands as the largest of its kind in utilizing palm resources.
Alayadh explained that the project uses palm fronds and trunks obtained through agreements with local farmers. These materials undergo detailed processing before being combined with specialized substances to produce high-quality wooden panels. These panels are known for their resistance to moisture and water and their ability to deter pests like termites, making them ideal for construction purposes.
This project marks a significant advancement in attracting new investments in the flooring and decoration sectors. By promoting sustainable manufacturing practices, it strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as a leader in environmentally conscious industries. The incorporation of 50% palm raw materials into these products underscores the ministry's dedication to merging industrial innovation with environmental conservation.
The project's focus on sustainability aligns with the principles of the circular economy. By establishing a sustainable industry based on palm resources, it supports economic growth while adhering to environmental goals. This initiative not only enhances local industry but also opens new avenues for investment and development within the Kingdom.
In summary, this project is a pivotal step towards integrating palm resources into targeted industries while supporting Saudi Vision 2030's objectives. It showcases how innovative use of local materials can drive both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
