Onshur Showcases Its Significant Support For Publishers At SIBF 2025

The Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund, known as "Onshur," is participating in the Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 for the second time. Initiated by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, this initiative showcases 20 publishing houses that have graduated from its "Launch" track.

During the fair, "Onshur" hosted various workshops and sessions to aid publishers. A notable session featured Gaurav Srinagesh, CEO of Penguin Random House India and Southeast Asia. He addressed questions on growth strategies and best practices in global publishing, including marketing and book data management.

The fund operates through three main tracks: "Launch," "Growth," and "Innovation." The "Launch" track helps new publishers qualify, with 20 graduates returning to showcase around 60 new titles produced in their first year. They received logistical support and waived fees to engage directly with readers.

The "Growth" track highlights successful projects like Saeed Mohammed Saeed's children's book, "Seif’s Adventures on Smart Money Island." Supported by an investment bank, it promotes financial literacy among youth. The "Innovation" track aids tech companies entering the regional market with licences and logistical support.

"Onshur's" presence at the fair allows participants to meet over 2,350 publishers from 118 countries. This provides a platform to showcase works, establish partnerships, and market publications to a broad audience. The pavilion also welcomed the Sharjah Translation Grant team, offering guidance on applying for grants to bring local literature to international audiences.

Interactive sessions with Sharjah Book Authority advisors facilitated experience sharing and opened channels to global markets. Additionally, book signings and official launches were organised for new publishers under its programmes.

A Vision for Sustainable Publishing

Imaan bin Sheiba, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Global Markets at Sharjah Book Authority, highlighted that "Onshur" supports the UAE's publishing industry. Guided by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi's vision, it offers programmes tailored to market needs and supports publishers throughout their professional journeys.

Bin Sheiba emphasised that publishing requires passion and commitment to books and culture. The Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund aims to provide a comprehensive support ecosystem focusing on modern technologies and AI. This ensures sustainability and advancement in the UAE's publishing industry.
