Oman's Ankaa Space Unveils Eco-Friendly Drone With 30kg Payload Capacity
In a notable development from Oman, Ankaa Space and Technologies has introduced the sultanate's first environmentally friendly drone, marking a significant step in the region's tech landscape. This innovation came to light during the COMEX Global Technology Show, an event that brought together a wide array of technological advancements and innovations.
Co-founder Mohammed Salim al Riyami provided insights into the company's evolution since its establishment in 2021, leading to the launch of their pioneering drone, named Tariq, this year. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Riyami highlighted Tariq's distinctive features, notably its innovative incorporation of Omani seaweed into certain components.
Designed for efficiency and versatility, Tariq can ascend to altitudes of 2,000m and carry loads up to 30kg. Equipped with an AI-supported camera, it facilitates advanced analysis and precise location tracking. With capabilities of operating over a control range of 20km, its endurance spans up to 40 minutes without payload and 20 minutes with one, offering broad utility in aerial tasks.
Riyami further detailed the drone's multifunctionality, which includes photography, reconnaissance, spraying, and aerial surveys. Highlighting the agricultural sector's interest, he mentioned collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, particularly in combating the palm weevil through drone-assisted pesticide application.
Despite facing challenges in procuring specific components like control panels, Ankaa Space and Technologies is navigating these hurdles with determination. Currently, after crafting three drones, the company is in the process of manufacturing 13 additional units, with plans to enhance the drone's range to 500km. This expansion of capabilities is aimed at diversifying applications, including logistics in Omani airports.
Riyami underscored the company's commitment to developing a versatile drone that not only meets various societal needs but also prioritizes environmental sustainability. He expressed his gratitude towards the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Civil Aviation Authority for their support, which has been crucial in the testing and development phases of Tariq.
