Oman Issues Advisory As Rain And Thunderstorms Set To Hit This Week
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman released its initial weather bulletin concerning a low-pressure system expected to affect the country from July 30 to August 2. This system, developing in the Arabian Sea, is predicted to bring rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across various regions.
According to the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center, cloud advection and formation are anticipated over most of Oman. Isolated rain and occasional thunderstorms are likely, particularly in South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, North Sharqiyah, Muscat, and Dhofar governorates. This evening, South Sharqiyah will experience isolated rain and thunderstorms. These conditions may extend to the coasts of Al Wusta and parts of North Sharqiyah and Muscat by Wednesday.

Dhofar will continue to see drizzle and isolated rain in its coastal and mountainous areas. On Thursday and Friday, cloud advection and isolated rain will persist over South Sharqiyah and Al Wusta. Cloud formation is expected over the Al Hajar Mountains and nearby areas during the afternoon and evening hours.
The weather system is expected to bring rainfall between 10-30 mm, potentially causing some wadis to flow. Fresh downdraft winds with speeds ranging from 15-35 knots (27-60 km/h) may move unstable objects. Horizontal visibility will decrease during thunderstorms due to downdraft winds and rising dust. The Arabian Sea coasts will experience rough seas with wave heights reaching up to four meters.

Cloud formation is also expected over the Al Hajar Mountains during the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday and Friday. Dhofar will continue with opportunities for drizzle and isolated rain over its coastal and mountainous areas.
This evening's forecast indicates that South Sharqiyah will see isolated rain and thunderstorms. These conditions may extend to the coasts of Al Wusta as well as parts of North Sharqiyah and Muscat by Wednesday.
The CAA urges everyone in affected areas to remain vigilant. Keeping informed about weather updates is crucial for safety during this period of adverse weather conditions.
