Oman Unveils First-Ever Groundbreaking Local Solar Cell Cleaning Robot
The Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Development (RAID) laboratory, in partnership with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), has introduced a robot for automatic solar cell cleaning. This locally developed innovation aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of solar power plants in Oman.
Abdulrahman bin Affan al Haji, Chairman of RAID lab, emphasised the importance of this new technology. "This unique innovation, designed and manufactured locally, ensures the optimal performance of vast solar cell plants by cleaning them with high efficiency," he stated.
The robot operates using solar energy and employs sensors to gather data for automating the cleaning process. It can perform both dry and wet cleaning based on the type of dirt present, ensuring comprehensive maintenance of solar cells.
This technology reduces water usage compared to traditional methods and boosts the output of solar panels. It also helps decrease reliance on non-renewable energy sources, contributing to environmental sustainability.
Developed to lessen human effort and mitigate risks linked to manual cleaning, the robot performs automatic cleaning. This not only enhances solar power plant performance but also reduces the need for direct human involvement, ensuring worker safety and operational sustainability.
Tested at PDO sites, the robot showed high efficiency by cleaning over 700 solar panels. It functions effectively in all weather conditions, guaranteeing continuous performance as observed by the team.
What is the Environmental Impact?
This innovation represents a significant advancement towards achieving environmental sustainability while boosting solar power plant efficiency. It aids in reducing dependence on traditional energy sources and promotes renewable energy use in the region.
The RAID lab's locally developed robot marks a notable step forward in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of Oman's solar power infrastructure. By automating the cleaning process, it ensures optimal performance while safeguarding workers' safety.
