Oman Tops Medal Table In Team Fencing At AWST 2026

Oman’s Salalah Club topped the team fencing events at the eighth Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026), held under Sharjah Women’s Sports. Across épée, sabre and foil, Salalah earned three gold, two silver and two bronze medals, giving Oman the strongest overall result among Gulf and Arab clubs.

The Arab Women's Sports Tournament, which runs until 12 February, gathers 65 teams from 16 Arab countries. Athletes compete in nine sports, including fencing, in both team and individual formats. Seven fencing clubs from six nations took part, underlining regional engagement in women’s sport within the Gulf and wider Middle East.

Oman leads fencing medal table at AWST 2026

The team rankings showed a close contest behind Oman. Saudi Arabia’s AlUla Club finished second with three gold, two silver and one bronze, totalling six medals. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club took third for the UAE, with one silver and three bronze medals across the three weapons against strong regional opposition.

Bahrain’s Albusaiteen Sport Club secured fourth place in team fencing, collecting one silver and one bronze. The Kuwait Fencing Association Academy followed in fifth, taking two bronze medals. Syria’s Damascus Club and the UAE’s Fujairah Martial Arts Club also participated, along with the Kuwait Fencing Federation Academy in the individual events.

In team épée, Salalah secured one of Oman’s three gold medals. The winning line-up featured Salma Al Dighaishi, Ghzal Al Fulaiti, Jana Al Sharji and Israa Al Siyabi. AlUla Club took second through Fawzya Alkhubiri, Dhay Alamiri, Danah Alqassem and Ahad Muammar, while Sharjah Women’s Sports Club placed third after a solid collective display.

Sabre brought Saudi Arabia’s AlUla Club another gold. The team of Alhsna Alhammad, Talene Alkudmani, Ruba Almasri and Ahad Muammar led the field. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club claimed second with Afra Alblooshi, Mohra Abdullah, Shama Alsweedy and Layan Sabet, as Kuwait Fencing Association Academy finished third through Maryam Alghais and teammates.

Arab Women Sports Tournament fencing foil and individual events

Foil confirmed Salalah’s strength in depth. The Omani squad of Jana Al Sharji, Salma Al Dighaishi, Israa Al Siyabi and Ghzal Al Fulaiti earned gold. Albusaiteen Sport Club of Bahrain took silver thanks to Sumaya Albuainain, Noor Shaikh Ali, Ritej Araoud and Fatima Zaman. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club collected bronze through Alia Alshaali and colleagues.

Individual fencing contests across épée, sabre and foil concluded on 3 February. AlUla Club led the individual medal table with two gold, one silver and one bronze, totalling four medals. Salalah followed with one gold, two silver and two bronze. Kuwait Fencing Federation Academy, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club and Albusaiteen each earned one individual bronze.

The combined team and individual outcomes highlight Salalah and AlUla as leading contenders at AWST 2026, while UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Syria also contributed to a broad field. The results add competitive depth to the Arab Women Sports Tournament fencing programme as the wider multi-sport event continues in Sharjah until 12 February.
