Oman To Inaugurate Tallest Flagpole At Al Khuwair Square Project
Muscat Municipality recently announced the initiation of an ambitious project within the Ministries District, known as Al Khuwair Square. This development is set to include the Sultanate of Oman's tallest flagpole, reaching an impressive height of 126 metres.
Spanning 18,000 square metres, Al Khuwair Square is designed to be a comprehensive recreational hub. It will feature well-maintained green spaces, palm trees, and amenities including walking and cycling paths, an arts and crafts exhibition area, a skate park as well as designated sports areas. Additionally, the project will offer essential public services such as restrooms and a parking lot capable of accommodating 107 vehicles. This development aims to provide a serene retreat for leisure and sports enthusiasts in the capital city of Muscat.
The centerpiece of the project, the flagpole, is poised to become Oman's highest man-made structure. It will be crafted from 135 tons of steel, and the Omani flag that it will bear has dimensions of 18 by 31.5 metres. The design incorporates a warning light system for aircraft, ensuring safety and visibility. This monumental flagpole is expected to be inaugurated during the country's fifty-fourth National Day celebrations of the Glorious Renaissance this November, as highlighted by His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi.
In statements made during the meeting, the collaborative effort between the public and private sectors was emphasised as pivotal to the realisation of Al Khuwair Square. His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Humaidi remarked on the project's alignment with Oman's Vision 2040 and its representation of a successful public-private partnership. Harssha Shetty echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the collaboration and highlighting Jindal Shadeed's commitment to contributing to Oman's progress and prosperity through such initiatives.
Preparations for the construction of Al Khuwair Square have been completed, including all necessary engineering studies and the acquisition of permits. The project's official opening is eagerly awaited during the forthcoming National Day celebrations, marking a significant milestone in Muscat's urban development and symbolizing the nation's aspirations for the future.
