Oman To Establish $31M Film City, Aiming To Boost Cultural And Creative Sectors

Oman is making a big move to become a major player in the regional entertainment industry and empower its cultural sector. The Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth recently announced plans to establish a cutting-edge "Film City" with a projected investment of OMR 12 million (US$31.2 million).

This exciting initiative stems from the Creative and Cultural Workshops held in March, which aimed to revitalize Oman's cultural and innovative industries. Located in Khazaen, Barka, the Film City is envisioned as a leading regional hub for film production. Expected to create over 100 jobs for Omanis in its first year, the facility will offer comprehensive services spanning pre-production to post-production.

"The Film City will not only enhance the local film industry but also attract international productions, fostering a vibrant cultural ecosystem in Oman," stated Nader al Rawahi, representing the Ministry in the Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit.

The Film City is just one piece of a broader cultural investment strategy. Here are some other exciting projects in the pipeline:

Ebdaa Park (OMR 2.2 million - US$5.7 million): A creative park in Muscat designed to celebrate and showcase Omani talent across various art forms.

Yaj Project (OMR 1.1 million - US$2.9 million): This initiative focuses on attracting international conferences and exhibitions to Oman, boosting the country's profile as a global cultural destination.

Decentralized Cultural Growth: The Ministry is committed to spreading cultural development beyond the capital. Initiatives include a Jewellery Design Centre in Nizwa, Cultural Experience Centers in Suhar, Bahla, and Nizwa, and a Virtual Reality Centre in Madinat al Irfan.

These investments reflect Oman's commitment to fostering a diversified and resilient economy through the power of arts and culture. This strategic push is expected to not only enhance Oman's cultural footprint but also stimulate economic growth and job creation, aligning perfectly with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
