Oman To Issue Temporary Work Permits For Expats In Boost To Khareef Season
The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has revealed plans to issue temporary work permits for non-Omanis. This initiative aims to boost commercial activities and improve visitor services during the khareef season in Dhofar.
Dhofar Municipality has extended this year's Khareef Dhofar activities until September 20, doubling the usual duration. The extension is designed to attract more tourists and better manage larger crowds, offering a broader range of events and experiences at both existing and new locations.
According to MoL, 'The ministry will grant temporary work permits to bring in expatriate workers. With an influx of tourists, this action will help employers and also regulate labour market. Additionally, the decision also ensures a safe and productive season for all while avoiding violations and incurring penalties.’
This measure is expected to support employers by providing additional workforce during the busy tourist season. It also aims to ensure a well-regulated labour market, preventing any potential violations or penalties.
Last year, Dhofar experienced a rise in visitors with 962,000 tourists compared to 813,000 in 2022. This year’s visitor numbers are anticipated to surpass 1 million. The extended season is part of efforts to accommodate this expected increase.
The longer duration of activities is intended to enhance the governorate's capacity to handle more visitors while offering diverse events. This approach aims to provide a richer experience for tourists.
The MoL's initiative and the extended khareef season are both aimed at boosting tourism and economic activity in Dhofar. These measures are expected to create a vibrant atmosphere for both locals and visitors alike.
