Oman Announces School Reopenings Post Severe Weather Conditions
Schools in Oman are set to reopen their doors on Thursday, April 18, following a temporary shutdown due to severe weather conditions. This decision comes even as the Sultanate braces for another day of thunderstorms on Wednesday, April 17. The adverse weather had prompted authorities to halt academic activities in all governorates, with the exception of Dhofar and Al Wusta, on Wednesday.
The persistent heavy rainfall in Oman has tragically resulted in the deaths of 19 individuals. In response to the crisis, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has been actively involved in rescue operations, particularly in Muscat and North Al Sharqiyah, where they have airlifted affected people to medical facilities. The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources is also playing a crucial role by managing dam water levels to mitigate the effects of the storm.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is urging the public to steer clear of wadis and all low-lying areas to avoid the dangers posed by the inclement weather. Despite the challenges faced, the educational sector has shown resilience, with schools transitioning to online classes until Wednesday. The CAA has indicated that the weather is expected to improve from Wednesday evening, paving the way for the resumption of classes on Thursday morning.
