Oman Prepares For An Expanded Khareef Dhofar 2024, Targets Over A Million Visitors

In a significant move to boost tourism, the Dhofar Governorate, in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is ramping up preparations for the Khareef Dhofar 2024. This initiative was highlighted during their participation in the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition, showcasing Dhofar's readiness to welcome an influx of tourists for the upcoming season. The previous season witnessed a remarkable surge in visitors, with figures reaching 962,000, up from 813,000 in 2022. With expectations set to surpass the one million mark this year, Dhofar is cementing its status as a premier tourist destination both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

The allure of the Khareef Dhofar season lies in its unique offering of nature, relaxation, shopping, entertainment, culture, tourism, and sports activities. This blend of experiences is set against the backdrop of Dhofar's rich natural, tourist, and cultural heritage resources. Furthermore, ambitious plans are underway to expand economic opportunities throughout this season and beyond.

Oman's Expanded Khareef Dhofar 2024

Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al-Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, shared insights during a press conference held on the sidelines of the exhibition. He announced that this year's Khareef season activities would commence early, aligning with the astronomical start on June 21 and extending until September 20. "This will provide a three-month duration, double the period previously allocated for Khareef season activities," Dr. Al-Ghassani explained. The extended season is anticipated to draw more tourists over a longer period, enhancing the governorate’s capacity to host larger numbers and ensuring smoother traffic flow. Moreover, activities are planned across both existing and new locations to offer visitors fresh and exciting experiences.

The strategic efforts by the Dhofar Governorate and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism underscore their commitment to promoting tourism as a key economic driver. By extending the Khareef season and diversifying the range of activities available to tourists, Dhofar is poised for a significant increase in visitor numbers. This not only boosts local businesses but also showcases Oman's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty to a wider audience.
