Oman Announces Partial Lifting Of Visa Ban On Bangladeshi Nationals
In a recent announcement, the Sultanate of Oman's Embassy in Dhaka declared a significant update regarding the visa ban initially set in October 2023. The embassy confirmed that specific categories of Bangladeshi nationals are now exempt from the visa restrictions, marking a pivotal development in the bilateral relations between Oman and Bangladesh.
The embassy's statement highlighted that the decision to lift the visa ban for certain categories was made by relevant Omani authorities. The exempt categories include family visas, visitation visas for Bangladeshis residing in GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries, and professionals such as physicians, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, and investors. Additionally, all types of official visas and visas for high-income tourists have also been included in the exemption list.
According to the statement, the Embassy in Dhaka is set to receive and process applications from individuals falling under these categories. The process involves coordination with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to ensure the issuance of visas. Applicants are required to submit documentation that is duly attested, verifying their eligibility for the requested visa type. The embassy has outlined that the processing time for applications will range from one to four weeks, depending on the specifics of each case.
Moreover, the embassy addressed the concerns related to the ban on work visas, stating that significant steps have been taken by both Omani and Bangladeshi authorities to work towards the removal of this ban. The aim is to lift the restrictions on work visas as swiftly as practicable, further enhancing the cooperation between the two nations.
The statement also emphasized that the visa ban and the recent exemptions are apolitical, attributing them to technical reasons related to the regular assessment of the foreign labor market in Oman. This clarification aims to reaffirm the strong and growing bilateral relations between Oman and Bangladesh, underpinned by mutual respect and understanding.
The embassy concluded by reaffirming the excellent bilateral relations existing between Oman and Bangladesh. These relations are described as constantly evolving across numerous fields, fostered by the leadership of both nations. This development is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the ties between Oman and Bangladesh, reflecting the mutual commitment to enhancing diplomatic and economic relationships.
