Oman Declares Public Holiday For Islamic New Year, Extends Weekend
The government of Oman has declared a public sector holiday on Sunday to celebrate the Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year. This marks the beginning of a new lunar year and is observed by most Muslims on the first day of Muharram.

As Friday and Saturday are regular weekends in the Sultanate, employees will enjoy an extended break from July 5 to July 7, resuming work on Monday, July 8.
In a separate statement, the Ministry of Labour mentioned that employers could require staff to work on Sunday, July 7 if necessary, provided they compensate them accordingly. The Islamic New Year is an important occasion for Muslims worldwide, signifying the start of a fresh lunar year and offering an opportunity for reflection and renewal.
