Oman Airports Report Has Recorded A 16.4% Passenger Increase By April 2024
The Sultanate of Oman has witnessed a significant increase in air travel, with passenger numbers soaring by 16.4 percent to reach 4,901,796 by the end of April 2024, compared to the same period last year. notable rise in air traffic underscores the growing appeal of Oman as a travel destination and a hub for international and domestic flights. The National Center for Statistics and Information provided preliminary statistics highlighting this upward trend in the aviation sector, reflecting the Sultanate's ongoing efforts to enhance its aviation infrastructure and services.
Muscat International Airport, the flagship airport of Oman, accounted for the majority of this increase. By the end of April 2024, about 4,430,119 passengers had traveled through Muscat International Airport, marking a 16.8 percent increase from the previous year. The airport also saw a 12.4 percent rise in flight operations, hosting 32,520 flights during this period. Of these, 29,862 were international flights carrying 4,97,728 passengers, while 2,658 were domestic flights with 332,391 passengers on board.
Indian nationals were the top travelers through Muscat International Airport in April, with arrivals reaching 89,206 and departures at 83,855. Following closely were passengers from Pakistan and Bangladesh, showcasing the diverse international demographic that Oman attracts.
Growth Across Other Airports
Salalah Airport, another key gateway in Oman, also experienced a growth in passenger traffic. By the end of April 2024, the airport served 429,181 passengers, up by 9.9 percent, on 3,122 flights. This included 1,660 international and 1,462 domestic flights, each carrying over 214,000 passengers.
Similarly, Sohar and Duqm Airports, though smaller in scale compared to Muscat and Salalah, reported increased activity. Sohar Airport facilitated travel for 22,390 passengers across 192 flights, while Duqm Airport saw 20,106 passengers on 208 flights.
This comprehensive increase across Oman's airports is not only indicative of the country's growing prominence as a travel and aviation hub but also reflects the broader trends in global air travel recovery post-pandemic.
