OIC Supports UN General Assembly's Resolution For ICJ Advisory Opinion On Israel's Aid Responsibilities To Palestinians

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed approval for the UN General Assembly's decision to seek an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This request concerns Israel's obligations regarding the presence and activities of the United Nations, other international bodies, and third states. The OIC acknowledged the efforts of Norway and other nations that supported this resolution.

The OIC highlighted that Israeli occupation measures, including laws affecting the operations and immunities of UN entities like the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), violate the UN Charter. These actions impact international organizations and third states in occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. According to the OIC, such measures deprive Palestinians of crucial aid and worsen their humanitarian situation.

OIC Backs UN Call for ICJ Opinion on Israel

The organization also welcomed another resolution by the UN General Assembly. This resolution reaffirms the "permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources." The OIC emphasized its support for this affirmation.

Furthermore, the OIC urged all countries, international organizations, and UN agencies to work towards ending Israeli occupation. They stressed enabling Palestinians to exercise their legitimate rights, such as self-determination and establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The OIC's statements underscore a call for global cooperation to address these issues. They aim to ensure that Palestinians can achieve their rights within internationally recognized borders. The organization's stance reflects ongoing concerns about humanitarian conditions in these regions.
