OIC Chief Advocates For Palestinian Support, Commends Saudi Leadership

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, recently extended his gratitude towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its pivotal role during the 14th session of the Islamic Summit Conference. The Kingdom, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, received praise for its substantial support and efforts towards the organization. This acknowledgment came during Taha's address at the Senior Staff Preparatory meeting for the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC.

In his speech, Taha emphasized the necessity for enhanced cooperation and unity among member states to tackle the pressing challenges facing the organization. He highlighted the Palestinian issue as a core focus of collective Islamic action, expressing deep concern over the continuous aggression in Gaza, targeted killings, settlement expansions, and efforts to alter the character and status of Jerusalem. Furthermore, Taha condemned violations against the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The transition of the summit's presidency to The Gambia was also a key point in Taha's speech. He congratulated The Gambia on this new role and expressed gratitude towards its government and people for their preparatory efforts. Taha assured OIC's full support and cooperation to ensure the success of the summit's objectives.

Mamadou Tangara, The Gambia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, also addressed the meeting. He welcomed the delegates from participating countries and underscored the OIC's critical role in addressing challenges faced by its member states. The preparatory meeting aims to review documents for the 15th session and compile a report from senior officials' discussions to be presented at the summit conference. This report will culminate in a final statement outlining the organization's stance on various agenda issues, including a resolution on Palestine and Jerusalem, alongside the Banjul Declaration.

The outcomes of these discussions are eagerly awaited by member states as they seek to navigate through complex geopolitical landscapes and reinforce their solidarity on key issues affecting the Islamic world.
