OIC Chief Urges Unity And Solidarity To Strengthen Bonds Among Muslims

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, recently made a notable appearance at the "Building Bridges between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects" international conference. During this event, Taha highlighted the critical need for unity, solidarity, and closer ties among Muslims, aligning with the core teachings of Islam. He called upon OIC member states to strive towards solidarity, unify their discourse, and bridge gaps between different Islamic sects and schools of thought. This effort, he noted, is essential for overcoming divisions that undermine their collective strength and cohesion.

Taha underscored the rich Islamic heritage that champions intellectual openness and the acceptance of differing viewpoints. He stressed the importance of bolstering Islamic unity and recognizing the shared destiny of the Ummah. The OIC member states bear a significant responsibility in working towards these objectives. The OIC has been instrumental in fostering closer relations among Islamic nations across political, economic, cultural, and social spheres. It has also been proactive in promoting unity among various Islamic sects.

In 1981, the OIC took a significant step by establishing the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA). The IIFA serves as an intellectual and jurisprudential body tasked with facilitating collective ijtihad and fostering consensus on jurisprudence and doctrinal matters across the Muslim community, regardless of sectarian affiliations. Taha expressed optimism that the outcomes and recommendations from this pivotal conference would aid in consolidating jurisprudence and building bridges between different Islamic sects. He also emphasized combating extremism, fanaticism, and Islamophobia.

Furthermore, Taha reiterated his unwavering support for the Palestinian people amidst their ongoing challenges. He called on the global community to shoulder its responsibilities towards this issue. The conference marks a significant step in the OIC's ongoing efforts to enhance solidarity and understanding among Muslims worldwide.
