OIC Reiterates Importance Of Safeguarding Holy Sites In Jerusalem
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reiterated its dedication to maintaining the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque. The OIC highlighted the mosque's sanctity as a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. This statement coincides with the anniversary of the attempted arson at Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid rising Israeli violations.
The OIC condemned various actions by Israeli officials and extremist settlers, such as incursions, desecration, gate closures, attacks on worshipers, and restricted access. These acts violate the sanctity of holy places, freedom of worship, and international law. The organization emphasized that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and an integral part of the territory occupied in 1967.
The OIC urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility for halting ongoing aggression in Gaza. They called for an end to Israeli colonial occupation and settlements. The organization stressed the need for Palestinians to regain their legitimate rights, including establishing an independent state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In its statement, the OIC rejected any measures or decisions aimed at altering Jerusalem's geographic or demographic character. They also opposed attempts to impose alleged Israeli sovereignty over the city and its sacred places. Such actions are considered illegal under international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The OIC expressed appreciation for Palestinians' steadfastness in defending their land and sacred places. They reiterated unwavering support for Palestinians' legitimate national rights. The organization called for increased support for Jerusalem and its people.
On this solemn anniversary, the OIC reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Jerusalem's status as a significant religious site. They emphasized that any attempts to change this status are unacceptable under international law.
The OIC's call to action includes urging global powers to intervene and ensure that Palestinians can exercise their right of return. They also stressed the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This statement from the OIC underscores their ongoing commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and maintaining the sanctity of holy sites in Jerusalem amidst ongoing conflicts.
