OIC Reiterates Importance Of Safeguarding Holy Sites In Jerusalem

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reiterated its dedication to maintaining the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque. The OIC highlighted the mosque's sanctity as a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. This statement coincides with the anniversary of the attempted arson at Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid rising Israeli violations.

The OIC condemned various actions by Israeli officials and extremist settlers, such as incursions, desecration, gate closures, attacks on worshipers, and restricted access. These acts violate the sanctity of holy places, freedom of worship, and international law. The organization emphasized that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and an integral part of the territory occupied in 1967.

The OIC urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility for halting ongoing aggression in Gaza. They called for an end to Israeli colonial occupation and settlements. The organization stressed the need for Palestinians to regain their legitimate rights, including establishing an independent state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
