Gambia To Host OIC Summit On Unity And Sustainable Development Next Month
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to convene its 15th annual Islamic Summit Conference on May 4-5 in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia. This year's conference, themed "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development," aims to tackle a broad spectrum of critical issues. Among these are the Palestinian question, the empowerment and roles of youth and women within the Islamic community, challenges facing Muslim families, the rise of Islamophobia, climate change impacts, and the status of Muslim minorities in countries not part of the OIC.
In preparation for this significant gathering, senior officials from OIC member states will come together on April 30 and May 1 to deliberate on session documents. These discussions are crucial as they will form the basis of a report to be presented at a subsequent meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled for May 1-2, just ahead of the summit itself.

The agenda for the leaders attending the summit is comprehensive, covering political, economic, humanitarian, social, and cultural dimensions. Key topics include the ongoing Palestinian cause, advancements in science and technology, issues related to information dissemination within the Islamic world, and the challenges faced by Muslim communities in non-member states. Additionally, pressing global concerns such as Islamophobia, hate speech, climate change, food security, and legal matters will be addressed.
A highlight of the summit will be a report from the OIC secretary-general. This report will outline the organization's key activities, programs, and projects initiated since the last Islamic Summit Conference. It serves as a testament to the OIC's ongoing efforts to address both longstanding and emerging challenges within the Islamic world.
The culmination of the conference will see the issuance of a final communique. This document will encapsulate the OIC's stances on various discussed issues and include specific resolutions on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif alongside the Banjul Declaration. These outcomes are anticipated with keen interest by member states and observers alike as they set the direction for future initiatives and cooperation within the Islamic community.
