OIC Convenes Extraordinary Meeting To Address Israeli Aggression Against Palestinians
In a significant development, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced an extraordinary meeting of its Council of Foreign Ministers set to take place on March 5, 2024. This crucial gathering, aimed at addressing the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, will be hosted at the OIC's General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah.
OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha is slated to deliver a speech at the opening session. Preceding this, a preparatory meeting involving senior officials is scheduled for March 4. This session will focus on discussing and approving the draft agenda and work program, as well as considering a draft resolution to be presented to the Council of Foreign Ministers.

This meeting follows a series of concerted efforts by the OIC to address the situation in Palestine. Notably, on October 11, 2023, Saudi Arabia played host to an extraordinary Joint Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh. This summit, organized in collaboration with the Arab League and the OIC, culminated in several critical decisions. Among these was the formation of a committee comprising foreign ministers from member states. This committee was tasked with touring global capitals and international organizations to advocate for an end to the Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians.
Further emphasizing its commitment to this cause, the OIC convened an open-ended Executive Committee extraordinary meeting at the level of foreign ministers on October 18 at its headquarters. This meeting was part of a broader initiative aimed at halting the ongoing violence against Palestinians that began on October 7.
The upcoming Council of Foreign Ministers meeting underscores the OIC's continued dedication to seeking a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. With representatives from across the Islamic world coming together, there is a renewed hope for progress towards peace and stability in the region.
