OIC Marks 55th Anniversary Highlighting Its Role In Global Affairs And Member State Support

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) marked its 55th anniversary. Established in response to the Al-Aqsa Mosque arson in Jerusalem, the OIC was founded following a summit in Rabat, Morocco. The organization is led by Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and operates from its main office in Jeddah, with additional offices worldwide.

With thousands of employees, the OIC has 41 offices and specialized agencies across 23 cities in the Islamic world. It represents Islamic nations at international forums, notably at the United Nations General Assembly through its New York and Geneva offices. The organization engages in various fields including politics, economics, culture, and media.

OIC Celebrates Its 55th Anniversary Today

The OIC regularly convenes the Islamic Summit Conference at the heads of state level. It also holds an annual Council of Foreign Ministers meeting. Additionally, the Islamic Summit on Science and Technology is now a regular event on its agenda. These gatherings help address key issues affecting member states.

The organization addresses concerns of Muslim communities globally and tackles Islamophobia. It collaborates with international bodies like the UN on numerous projects. Its focus areas include peace and security, Palestine and Jerusalem issues, poverty reduction, terrorism combatting, investment financing, food security, science and technology advancement, climate change adaptation, sustainable development, moderation promotion, cultural harmony, women's empowerment, humanitarian action, human rights advocacy, and governance improvement.

The OIC plays a significant role in fostering cooperation among member states to address these challenges effectively. By working together on these fronts, it aims to create a more harmonious global environment for Muslims worldwide.
