OIC Ambassadors At UN Strategize On Gaza Ceasefire And Palestine Statehood

On Wednesday, in New York City, a significant meeting convened by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) permanent representatives to the United Nations took place, under the leadership of Mauritania's representative, Sidi Mohamed Laghdaf. This gathering followed closely on the heels of the UN Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2728 on March 25, a move that the OIC group has lauded as a historic and transformative step towards establishing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution aims to halt the civilian casualties and alleviate the humanitarian crisis inflicted upon Palestinians due to Israeli actions.

The OIC group's meeting underscored the urgent need for the international community and Security Council members to expedite the implementation of Resolution 2728. The representatives expressed their contentment with the growing cooperation among the OIC, the League of Arab States, and the Non-Aligned Movement. A focal point of their discussion was the execution of decisions made during the joint extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh and a special session of foreign ministers in Jeddah. These decisions highlighted the importance of broadening international recognition of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
