NYU Abu Dhabi Partners With UAE Cyber Security Council To Enhance Cybersecurity Education And Research

NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Cyber Security Council (CSC). This agreement aims to enhance cybersecurity research, education, and innovation. The collaboration will focus on sharing educational resources and organising workshops, conferences, and educational visits for students, faculty, and researchers.

Participants will gain practical experience by working with industry experts through CYBERE71. This initiative provides training on building and operating startups focused on cybersecurity. The partnership aims to leverage shared expertise to develop joint research projects, contribute to national cybersecurity policy, and build a strong talent pipeline equipped to address emerging challenges.

NYU Abu Dhabi and UAE Cyber Security Council Collaborate

The collaboration between NYUAD and the Council seeks to bolster national capabilities in cybersecurity. By driving innovation in security solutions, they aim to nurture a sustainable ecosystem of skilled professionals in this field. This partnership is expected to significantly contribute to the UAE's long-term development goals.

NYUAD Provost Arlie Petters stated, "Cybersecurity plays a critical role in supporting the resilience of our digital infrastructure and economy. This collaboration with the UAE Cyber Security Council reinforces NYUAD’s commitment to advancing research and education in a field that is vital to the UAE’s long-term development. Together, we aim to equip future professionals with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities."

The MoU builds upon NYUAD's broader efforts to strengthen partnerships that align with the UAE's national priorities in innovation, digital transformation, and knowledge-based development. The collaboration will support training initiatives at the university level by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience through hands-on training.

Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, emphasised that this collaboration is part of ongoing efforts by state institutions to enhance cyber resilience. He noted that it promotes cybersecurity awareness through supporting training and education initiatives.

Leadership in Cybersecurity

The partnership is led by NYUAD’s Office of Research Translation and Entrepreneurship alongside Professor Ozgur Sinanoglu from the Center for Cyber Security. Their goal is to prepare young professionals by providing realistic simulations of emerging cyber threats, enabling students to understand how to respond effectively.

This formal partnership follows active discussions between NYUAD and the Council aimed at advancing cybersecurity-related initiatives. It supports developing skilled professionals equipped to tackle emerging challenges in this critical field.

Efforts like these ensure that the UAE maintains its leadership in cybersecurity by fostering education and innovation within digital fields. Such initiatives are crucial for developing leading national talents who can address real-world threats effectively.
