NWC Partners With Aguas De Valencia To Enhance Wastewater Treatment In Taif

The National Water Company (NWC) has entered into a long-term operation and maintenance contract with Spanish firm Aguas de Valencia. This 15-year agreement focuses on rehabilitating, operating, and maintaining two wastewater treatment plants in Taif Governorate. The initiative aims to attract private sector investment to enhance environmental sustainability and boost the water sector's growth.

The contract was signed by NWC chief executive Dr. Fouad Al Sheikh Mubarak and Aguas de Valencia General Manager Severino Ramos at NWC headquarters in Jeddah. Senior officials from both organisations attended the signing ceremony. The contract is valued at over SAR555 million ($148 million) and involves a tariff level of SAR 0.67 per cubic meter ($0.18 per cubic meter).

NWC and Aguas de Valencia Team Up

The project involves rehabilitating, operating, and maintaining two wastewater treatment plants in Taif Governorate. These plants have a combined treatment capacity of 147,000 cubic meters per day. This deal is part of NWC's broader strategy to sign contracts for 113 existing wastewater treatment plants, which have a total capacity of 2.4 million cubic meters per day, starting in 2024.

NWC aims to support the national economy by promoting growth in the water sector and providing investment opportunities for local and international companies. The company seeks to establish long-term partnerships with private sectors both locally and globally.

The innovative model aims to attract modern technologies and transfer knowledge to national cadres. This approach is designed to initiate partnerships that interest operating companies within local and global alliances.
