Noor Riyadh 2024: International Artists Illuminate The City At The World's Largest Light Art Festival

Noor Riyadh, under the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and Riyadh Art, is set to return for its fourth edition from November 28 to December 14. This year, over 60 artists from 18 different countries will illuminate the Saudi capital with the theme "Light Years Apart." The festival will feature a diverse range of creators, including visual artists, industrial designers, sculptors, musicians, and photographers.

The festival's theme delves into the connection between Althara (the earth) and Althuraya (the sky), reflecting humanity's journey and aspirations. New site-specific commissions will be unveiled by artists like Abdul Rahman Taha, Athar Alharbi, Jukan Tatesi, Takeshi Yasura, Kimchi and Chips, Lachlan Turczan, Maryam Tariq, Nasser Al Turki, and Takayuki Mori. These works aim to redefine how art interacts with urban spaces.

Noor Riyadh Festival Returns for 2024 Edition

Artworks will be showcased at three significant locations: King Abdulaziz Historical Center, Wadi Hanifah, and the JAX District. The King Abdulaziz Historical Center is a cultural landmark that hosts exhibitions celebrating Saudi Arabia's rich heritage. Wadi Hanifah offers a natural setting with green corridors and streams for engaging with art in serene surroundings.

JAX District is renowned for its creativity and cultural projects. It serves as a hub for contemporary arts, providing visitors with modern artistic expressions. The district's galleries and cultural initiatives make it an ideal location for Noor Riyadh's displays.

Engaging Community Activities

In addition to light art displays, Noor Riyadh will offer workshops and artistic dialogue sessions. These activities aim to engage the community through various programs. Festival Director Nouf Almoneef highlighted the festival's impact: "Riyadh Art and Noor Riyadh celebrate the artistic spirit that thrives in our city and beyond."

The festival has transformed Riyadh into a vibrant cultural destination through festivals and community activities. It has hosted over 6,000 activities that inspire creativity among residents and visitors alike.

A Record-Breaking Festival

Noor Riyadh has attracted more than 6 million visitors since its inception. It has achieved 14 Guinness World Records, solidifying its status as the largest light art festival globally. Over 388 artworks have been created by more than 300 artists worldwide.

Curators Dr. Effat Abdullah Fadag and Dr. Alfredo Cramerotti invite visitors to explore Riyadh through this artistic journey. With contributions from 18 Saudi artists and 43 international ones from countries like Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Türkiye, UK, UAE, US among others; this year's edition promises an enriching experience.
