Noatum Maritime Strengthens Commitment To Sustainability With Electric Tug And Pilot Boat Acquisition
Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster, is advancing sustainable maritime operations with two significant investments. They have acquired the GCC's first all-electric hydro-foiling pilot boat and purchased two fully electric tugboats. These zero-emission vessels are central to Noatum Maritime's decarbonisation strategy, offering benefits like operational efficiency and reduced emissions. They also support carbon credit initiatives.
The Artemis EF-12 Pilot boat is a notable step in energy-efficient pilotage. This 12-metre vessel uses Artemis Technologies' eFoiler technology to lift its hull above water, cutting drag and reducing energy use by up to 85%. This innovation leads to lower fuel and maintenance costs while providing a high-performance, zero-emission option that aligns with global sustainability goals.

Two Damen RSD-E tug 2513s will enhance sustainable towage at Khalifa Port. After successfully trialling the first unit, recognised by Guinness World Records as the most powerful electric tugboat, Noatum Maritime has integrated it permanently into their fleet. Another unit will join in April 2025. These tugs can complete multiple tasks on one charge and recharge fully in just two hours.
Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO of AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster, stated, "By investing in zero-emission pilotage and harbour operations, Noatum Maritime is delivering a cleaner more efficient solution that reduces the environmental footprint of port operations, drives long term cost savings and also benefits our customers. By offering fully electric alternatives we are supporting our customers sustainability goals and potentially enabling them to leverage carbon credits. In pioneering these technologies, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustainable innovation and setting new benchmarks for the industry."
Commitment to Sustainable Innovation
Noatum Maritime's shift to electric vessels highlights their commitment to sustainable harbour operations. Their ongoing investment in eco-friendly port infrastructure positions them as leaders in transitioning to cleaner maritime solutions. These efforts align with global decarbonisation goals while providing cost-effective alternatives to traditional methods.
The adoption of these technologies not only reduces emissions but also enhances operational efficiency at ports. By integrating these electric vessels into their fleet, Noatum Maritime sets new standards for sustainability in the maritime industry. Their initiatives demonstrate a proactive approach towards achieving long-term environmental benefits while maintaining high performance levels.
