NHRI Participates As Observer In 27th Session Of Arab Charter On Human Rights Committee In Cairo
The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) recently observed the 27th session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. This meeting took place on January 28, 2025, at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo. The session focused on reviewing the UAE's second national report concerning the Arab Charter on Human Rights.
The NHRI delegation was led by Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of NHRI. It included Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Noman and Ameirah Al Seraidi, both Board of Trustees Members. Also present were Amro Al Qahtani, Director of the Chairperson’s Office, and Fatima Al Hosani, Head of Awareness and Educational Section.

During his speech at the event, Maqsoud Kruse expressed gratitude for being invited to this significant gathering. He praised the strong collaboration between NHRI and the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. He also highlighted NHRI’s journey since its establishment under Federal Law No. 12 of 2021.
The law ensures NHRI's independence and adherence to the Paris Principles for human rights promotion and protection. Since its inception, NHRI has aimed to forge positive partnerships with human rights organisations at GCC, Arab, and international levels. This includes developing work mechanisms and enhancing cooperation across various human rights sectors.
Maqsoud Kruse emphasised that national institutions play a crucial role in supporting human rights frameworks. They also enhance community awareness about individual rights and freedoms. He noted that NHRI is continuously refining its strategies based on international best practices to achieve significant progress in rights protection.
