NextEra Bootcamp Empowers 16 Startups To Transform Saudi Arabia's Deep Tech Ecosystem
The third group of deep tech startups in Saudi Arabia has wrapped up an intensive acceleration program at the NextEra startup bootcamp. This event took place at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) on May 27 and 28, 2025. The bootcamp, a joint effort between KAUST and the National Technology Development Program (NTDP), aims to transform various industries, including healthcare and cybersecurity, aligning with Saudi Arabia's national goals for research, development, and innovation.
KAUST's Vice President of the National Transformation Institute, Ian Campbell, highlighted the success of NextEra. "With over $250 million investment raised since they launched their companies and over 170 jobs created after joining the Program, NextEra is proving that it is delivering a thriving deep tech ecosystem in the Kingdom," he stated. He also noted KAUST's role as an ideal incubator for such startups due to its focus on entrepreneurship and innovation.

This year's cohort showcases a wide array of sectors with transformative potential. These sectors align with Saudi Arabia's priorities in health and wellness, sustainable environments, energy leadership, and future economies. The diverse range of startups reflects the ambition to revolutionise their respective fields while supporting national goals.
Mohammed Almamar, Executive Product Manager at NTDP, emphasised their mission to support deep tech funding gaps. "We are driven by a clear mission: to bridge the gap in funding deep tech and empower the companies bold enough to challenge the status quo and build the future," he said. He added that they support visionary founders who push boundaries in research and innovation.
The NextEra bootcamp provides startups with valuable mentoring, guidance, and networking opportunities at KAUST. This support fosters collaboration and accelerates their journey towards market success. By aiding these innovative companies, KAUST and NTDP contribute significantly to Saudi Arabia's economic growth and transformation.
The collaboration between KAUST and NTDP strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as a global leader in deep-tech innovation. Their efforts not only drive economic growth but also reinforce the Kingdom's status as a hub for technological advancement.
Through initiatives like this bootcamp, Saudi Arabia continues to nurture talent that will shape its innovation landscape for years ahead. The focus remains on empowering startups that challenge norms while building a future aligned with national priorities.
