Essential Travel Tips For New Year's Eve 2025 In Dubai: Road Closures And Metro Changes
As Dubai gears up to light up the sky with dazzling firework displays and drone shows, the city is also bracing for gridlock. If you're planning to head out for celebrations, navigating through the UAE's buzzing streets will require a little more than just your regular GPS.
Consider this your survival kit for a smooth (and possibly stress-free) New Year's Eve.

Where Not to Drive
Think of Downtown Dubai as a giant VIP section on New Year's Eve. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolled out a strategic lockdown on key roads, designed to keep the party safe and under control. If your GPS tries to lead you through these routes, consider turning around unless you're craving a roadside view of taillights.
From 4 PM:
- Al Asayel Street
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard
- Burj Khalifa Street
- Lower Financial Centre Street
- Al Mustaqbal Street
From 8 PM:
- Al Sukook Street
- Upper Financial Centre Street
From 11 PM:
- Sheikh Zayed Road – Expect gradual closures between Al Meydan Street and the Trade Centre Roundabout.
If you're heading toward Burj Khalifa, it's best to park early or, better yet, surrender to public transport.
Dubai Metro and Tram
Let's face it – driving might not be your best bet this New Year's Eve. Luckily, Dubai's Metro and Tram are clocking in overtime.
- Metro Timings: Continuous operation from 5 AM on December 31 to midnight on January 1 – 43 straight hours of service.
- Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station: Closed from 5 PM or earlier if capacity maxes out. Nearby stations like Business Bay or Financial Centre will pick up the slack.
- Dubai Tram: In service from 6 AM on December 31 until 1 AM on January 2.
Pro tip: Aim to hop on the metro well before 5 PM. Latecomers may find themselves stranded or rerouted.
Buses and Taxis
For those venturing beyond metro reach, 1,100 buses will be on standby, whisking visitors to celebration hotspots. Around 29,600 taxis and limousines will also be prowling the streets.
- The E100 and E102 bus routes will not operate on December 31 and January 1. Use E101 from Ibn Battuta instead.
- Extra parking spots (up to 20,000) are set up around Dubai Mall, Zabeel, and Emaar Boulevard, with shuttle buses on loop.
Free Parking – A New Year's Gift
If you're driving, you might as well park for free. Public parking across Dubai is free on January 1 – except for multi-storey facilities. If you find yourself circling for spots, Al Wasl Club (500 spaces) and Al Jaffiliya (400 spaces) are your safest bets.
Tips to Survive the NYE Traffic Jungle
- Go early: The golden rule for New Year's in Dubai. If you think 6 PM is early, try 3 PM.
Pick your parking wisely: Opt for metro stations with park-and-ride services, such as Jebel Ali, Etisalat by e&, Centrepoint, and Jumeirah Golf Estates.
- Leave the car behind: Metro, buses, and even water taxis will save you from post-fireworks gridlock.
- Wear comfy shoes: Walking might just be faster if you're heading to nearby celebrations.
Stay connected: The S'hail app will update you on live traffic, metro congestion, and alternative routes.
A New Year's Eve to Remember (Not for the Traffic)
New Year's Eve in Dubai isn't just a celebration – it's a spectacle. Whether you're ringing in 2025 under Burj Khalifa's fireworks or soaking up the laser show in Ras Al Khaimah, getting there smoothly will make all the difference. Take the long view – embrace the crowd, park smart, and let Dubai's well-oiled transport machine do the heavy lifting.
