OOCL Introduces New Maritime Service At Jubail Commercial Port To Strengthen Gulf Links
The Saudi Ports Authority "Mawani" has recently unveiled a strategic enhancement to Jubail Commercial Port's global connectivity with the introduction of a new maritime shipping service by Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL). This initiative is poised to significantly improve the linkage between the Kingdom's ports and those in the UAE, Kuwait, and other Gulf countries, marking a significant step in bolstering the competitive position of Jubail Commercial Port on the international stage.
In alignment with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), this service is designed to position the Kingdom as a key global logistics hub, bridging three continents. Jubail Commercial Port, known for its state-of-the-art facilities capable of accommodating a diverse range of ships, is at the forefront of this ambitious strategy. The port's advanced capabilities are crucial for supporting the movement of national exports and imports, particularly for industrial and petrochemical products from Jubail Industrial City. This not only contributes to reducing costs associated with imported and exported goods but also strengthens the Kingdom's competitive edge.

The newly launched service will connect Jubail Commercial Port with key ports in Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in the UAE, and Shuwaikh in Kuwait. Operating on a weekly basis, it offers a capacity of up to 3,500 TEUs, thereby playing a pivotal role in enhancing global supply chain dynamics. This addition is especially noteworthy as it represents the eighth such enhancement in 2024, underscoring Mawani's commitment to improving logistic service efficiency and elevating service levels across the Kingdom's ports.
This development is expected to have a profound impact on the maritime and logistics sector by improving connectivity, reducing operational costs, and enhancing service efficiency. By doing so, it affirms Jubail Commercial Port's global presence and its role in supporting Saudi Arabia's vision to become a leading logistics hub. The strategic location of Jubail Commercial Port, combined with this new shipping service, is set to further enhance the Kingdom's logistics infrastructure and its ability to facilitate international trade more effectively.
As part of Saudi Arabia's broader efforts to diversify its economy and develop its transport and logistics sectors, this initiative by Mawani aligns perfectly with national objectives. It not only supports the growth of the maritime sector but also contributes to the overall economic development of the Kingdom by improving its trade links with neighboring countries.
The introduction of this new shipping service by OOCL at Jubail Commercial Port is a testament to Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to enhance its maritime logistics capabilities. It highlights the Kingdom's strategic approach to leveraging its geographic and infrastructural advantages to cement its position as a pivotal player in global logistics and trade.
