New Phase Of Public Bus Transport Project Launched In Jeddah To Enhance City Connectivity
The Mayor of Jeddah, Saleh bin Ali Al-Turki, recently launched the latest phase of Jeddah's public bus transport project. This event took place at the Jeddah Transport Company's headquarters, with several officials in attendance. The new phase introduces 91 modern buses, including 88 diesel-powered buses and three electric ones, all designed to be environmentally friendly and accessible for people with disabilities.
Eng. Youssef Alsayegh, CEO of Jeddah Transport Company, highlighted the advanced features of these buses. They include USB ports for charging devices, internal screens showing routes, and a GPS tracking system linked to an operational control panel. This technology aims to improve both efficiency and safety during operations.

The project has expanded its service coverage by increasing the number of routes to 14 and stops to 80 across Jeddah. Additionally, 117 air-conditioned stations have been established, comprising 46 existing ones and 71 new stations currently being procured. These improvements aim to provide a more comprehensive public transport network for the city.
A mobile app named "Jeddah Buses" has been launched on both Apple Store and Google Play. This app offers real-time bus tracking and e-ticket purchasing options. Users can pay through the app or directly on the buses using Mada cards, providing flexible payment solutions for passengers.
The company expects over 27 million passengers in this phase over three years, averaging nine million annually. This anticipated growth reflects increased confidence in public transport services. It also aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goals to reduce private vehicle reliance and promote environmental sustainability.
Alsayegh mentioned that these buses are manufactured by a leading global company known for high-quality production standards. The buses are equipped with facilities for people with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity in public transportation.
The introduction of these modern buses is part of a broader effort to enhance public transport infrastructure in Jeddah. By offering improved services and facilities, the project supports the Kingdom's vision for sustainable urban development.
