King Abdulaziz Port Welcomes IMS Service To Strengthen KSA's Maritime Links With Southeast Asia And India
The Saudi Ports Authority 'Mawani' has recently unveiled a significant development in maritime connectivity with the introduction of the 'IMS' shipping service by VASI Shipping Pte Ltd at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. This new service is set to forge stronger links between the Kingdom and key destinations in Southeast Asia and India, marking a pivotal moment for international trade relations and economic growth within the region.
This initiative is part of Mawani's broader strategy to expand its global partnerships with leading shipping lines, thereby enhancing the maritime sector's contribution to the national economy. By facilitating more efficient movement of exports and imports, the IMS service is perfectly aligned with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS). This strategy aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a premier logistics hub, strategically positioned at the crossroads of three continents.

The IMS service promises to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. It will connect the port to five major regional and international ports: Klang (Malaysia), Surabaya and Jakarta (Indonesia), Nhava Sheva (India), and Jebel Ali (UAE). These connections will be maintained through weekly voyages, boasting a capacity of up to 1,800 Twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
In a testament to its growing importance and efficiency, King Abdulaziz Port recently achieved an unprecedented milestone by handling 235,820 TEUs in February alone. This achievement underscores the port's advanced operational services and state-of-the-art equipment, which enable it to handle a wide variety of goods. With a capacity for managing 105 million tons of cargo and containers, King Abdulaziz Port is well-equipped to support the Kingdom's ambitious economic goals.
The introduction of the IMS service by VASI Shipping Pte Ltd is more than just an expansion of shipping routes; it represents a strategic enhancement of Saudi Arabia's maritime infrastructure. By improving connectivity with Southeast Asia and India, this service not only supports the Kingdom's economic development but also contributes significantly to its role as a global logistics powerhouse.
