New Global Sport Conference 2025 Opens In Riyadh With Focus On Gaming And Esports Development

The New Global Sport Conference (NGSC 2025) commenced in Riyadh, coinciding with the final week of the 2025 Esports World Cup. This event unites leaders from sports, esports, gaming, entertainment, technology, and business. Organised by the Esports World Cup Foundation, it began with a panel titled "The Kingdom’s Next Era of Play: How Saudi Arabia Is Rewriting the Future of Gaming and Esports."

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their support across sectors, especially sports. He noted Vision 2030's transformative impact on the sector and praised organisers for their progress since last year. The prince highlighted sports' rapid growth in Saudi Arabia, emphasising its influence on tourism, culture, and quality of life.

Global Sport Conference Begins in Riyadh

Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz also pointed out that 63% of Saudi Arabia's population is under 30. This demographic focus has led to an emphasis on fitness and youth activities. He mentioned that approximately 20 million Saudis engage in esports, highlighting its growing importance. Efforts are underway to establish Saudi Arabia as a global esports hub through infrastructure and training.

The minister stressed that combining sports, entertainment, and technology offers vast opportunities for Saudi youth while promoting the Kingdom's culture globally. He cited successful international tournaments hosted under HRH the Crown Prince's guidance. Preparations for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2034 aim to deliver an exceptional tournament with lasting benefits through investments in infrastructure and hospitality.

Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih discussed the Public Investment Fund's role in developing gaming and esports as part of Vision 2030's economic transformation. He likened data and technology to "the new oil," viewing gaming as crucial to the digital revolution. Al-Falih emphasised gaming's role beyond entertainment as a driver of technology, tourism, education, and social development.

Global Gaming Community Growth

Communications Minister Abdullah Alswaha highlighted the global gaming community's growth into a major economic sector with over 3.5 billion gamers worldwide. Under King Salman's leadership, Saudi Arabia has made significant investments in gaming and esports. The Kingdom is now one of the fastest-growing markets globally.

Alswaha pointed to national companies like Savvy Group and international tournaments hosted by Saudi Arabia as evidence of its commitment not only to participate but also to shape gaming's future. The government welcomes global investors and offers opportunities for young Saudi talent, including women.

Prince Abdulaziz concluded by stating that Saudi Arabia can provide a distinguished model for hosting events that reflect its stature and meet its people's aspirations.
