NEOM Sports Club Appoints Alex Leitao As New Chief Executive Officer To Enhance Growth And Community Engagement

NEOM Sports Club has announced the appointment of Alex Leitao as its new chief executive officer. Leitao, who previously served as the CEO of Brazilian football team Club Athletico Paranaense, brings a wealth of experience from his work with various renowned sports clubs worldwide, including Orlando City in the U.S. Major League Soccer.

Leitao's primary focus will be on enhancing the club's growth, performance, and brand presence across the region. This aligns with NEOM's ambitions and Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to increase sports participation throughout the Kingdom by engaging with local communities and developing talent.

NEOM Sports Club Welcomes New CEO Alex Leitao

Moaath Alohali, who has been serving as the chief executive since NEOM took ownership in June 2023, will transition to an advisory role. During his tenure, Alohali played a crucial role in the club's success by recruiting top-tier players and coaches and establishing both a women's football team and a youth program.

NEOM Sports Club chairman Mishari Al-Mutairi expressed gratitude to Alohali for his contributions. He emphasized the club's dedication to attracting top players and coaches to achieve high levels of sporting excellence, aligning with their strategic goals.

The new CEO, Leitao, remarked on joining during a transformative phase for the Kingdom as it becomes a global sports hub. "As we enter a significant phase with the Kingdom's transformation into a global sports hub, I am delighted to join a sports club to contribute to achieving its sporting and social objectives, adding further distinction to its national journey," he stated.

He highlighted that NEOM Sports Club's rapid growth in professional football is key to competing effectively while supporting emerging talents and boosting community involvement in this innovative region.

Current Achievements and Future Prospects

The NEOM Sports Club football team is currently leading the Saudi First Division after their recent promotion. The ongoing 2024-25 season is set to conclude in May 2025 after 36 matches.

This leadership change marks an exciting chapter for NEOM Sports Club as it continues its journey towards becoming a prominent player in regional sports under Vision 2030.
