NCW Releases 15 Arabian Sand Gazelles To Enhance Biodiversity At Buraydah Oasis Park
Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, has overseen the release of 15 Arabian Sand Gazelles at Buraydah Oasis Park in Qassim. This initiative is part of a broader program aimed at breeding and reintroducing endangered wildlife species for the 2024-2025 season. The effort underscores collaboration among environmental sectors to boost biodiversity and ecological balance while promoting sustainability.
The release event marks the start of this year's wildlife release season, continuing the National Center for Wildlife's (NCW) efforts to breed endangered species and reintroduce them into national parks and reserves. This initiative highlights strong cooperation between the NCW and national entities focused on environmental conservation. The CEO of the NCW, Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Qurban, noted that this release was conducted with support from the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) and the National Water Company (NWC).

Dr. Qurban explained that assessing the oasis's biodiversity was crucial to determine the importance of releasing these species. This assessment helps enrich biodiversity in both the oasis and surrounding areas, benefiting resident and migratory species recorded there. He emphasized that NCW's initiatives not only enhance ecotourism in Saudi Arabia but also provide economic opportunities for local communities.
The NCW remains committed to collaborating with communities and stakeholders to develop national plans for wildlife development. These plans include breeding endangered local species, rehabilitating ecosystems, and enriching biodiversity across Saudi Arabia. Dr. Qurban affirmed that this ongoing collaboration within the environmental system aligns with broader national strategies.
This initiative supports the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and contributes to the National Strategy for Environmental Conservation. It aligns with Vision 2030 goals by creating a positive environment and improving quality of life in Saudi Arabia. The NCW's efforts are integral to achieving these objectives by fostering sustainable practices that benefit both nature and society.
In summary, Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley's leadership in releasing Arabian Sand Gazelles at Buraydah Oasis Park reflects a commitment to enhancing biodiversity through strategic partnerships. By aligning with national conservation strategies, these efforts aim to create a sustainable future while supporting economic growth through ecotourism.
