NCW Announces Commencement Of The 2025-2026 Hunting Season In Saudi Arabia

The National Center of Wildlife (NCW) has announced the start of the hunting season in Saudi Arabia for this year. The season will run until a specified date, adhering to updated regulations aimed at sustainable resource use and biodiversity protection. These updates align with the Environment Law and are based on scientific research, international practices, and expert advice.

Hunters can only target species listed on NCW's website and the Fitri platform. Licensed firearm users and falconers registered with the Saudi Falcons Club must secure permits through Fitri. Hunting endangered species is strictly forbidden, as is hunting in restricted areas like cities, villages, farms, and near military or industrial sites.

Hunting is also banned in protected zones and mega projects such as NEOM, Qiddiya, and The Red Sea Project. Additionally, hunting along the Kingdom’s coasts up to 20 kilometers inland is prohibited. Only approved methods are allowed for hunting; techniques capturing multiple birds at once, like shotguns or nets, are not permitted.

The NCW stresses adherence to environmental laws and warns that violators will face legal consequences. The Ministry of Interior's Special Forces for Environmental Security, along with other agencies, will enforce these rules by apprehending offenders and referring them for legal action.

Dr. Mohammed Qurban, CEO of NCW, highlighted that this marks the fifth regulated hunting season since 2021. He noted that NCW has refined its processes over time to promote sustainable hunting practices. This initiative has raised awareness among hunters about protecting natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.

Saudi Arabia's efforts in regulating hunting have gained international acclaim. The Kingdom received the ‘Migratory Species Champion’ award through NCW for its leadership in addressing unsustainable hunting practices and illegal trade in migratory species.

Commitment to Vision 2030

This recognition underscores Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in combating illegal bird hunting across Southwest Asia. These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to sustainable environmental management under Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.

The Kingdom's dedication to these goals reflects a national commitment to preserving natural resources while supporting ecological balance. As Dr. Qurban stated: "The Kingdom has now entered its fifth regulated hunting season since the system was introduced in 2021."
