NCVC Initiates Major Project To Restore Hali Wildlife Park By Planting 90,000 Trees

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has embarked on a significant project to rejuvenate Hali Wildlife Park in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, Makkah Region. This initiative aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative, focusing on boosting vegetation cover and promoting sustainable environmental objectives.

Hali Wildlife Park is celebrated for its picturesque landscapes and rich plant diversity. Its location near Wadi Hali Dam Lake makes it a popular spot for both local and international tourists. The park's restoration aims to enhance its natural beauty and ecological significance.

The project involves planting 90,000 native and wild trees, including species like Acacia nilotica, Vachellia tortilis, Tamarix aphylla, Vachellia seyal, Balanites aegyptiaca, Maerua crassifolia, Delonix elata, Salvadora persica, Leptadenia pyrotechnica. These trees will span approximately 6 million square meters.

Water for irrigation will be sourced from nearby dams. A 6-kilometer pipeline will be built to transport water from the Wadi Hali Dam to the park. This infrastructure ensures a sustainable water supply for the newly planted trees.

The NCVC's afforestation efforts contribute significantly to expanding green spaces across Saudi Arabia. These projects help create habitats for wildlife, preserve native plant species at risk of extinction, reduce temperatures, improve air quality, and control sand encroachment.

The center is committed to enhancing vegetation sites through sustainable management practices. This includes overseeing rangelands, forests, and national parks while addressing violations related to vegetation and combating illegal logging activities.
