NCVC Launches Comprehensive Project To Assess Degraded Vegetation Cover In Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has initiated a project to evaluate and restore degraded sites in Saudi Arabia. This initiative employs internationally accepted methods and advanced technologies. The project aims to create rehabilitation plans for areas in Riyadh and the Eastern Province, aligning with the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030.

Efforts will focus on identifying deteriorated regions, understanding the causes of degradation, and implementing future monitoring and restoration strategies. The project includes short-, medium-, and long-term plans to rehabilitate affected areas, ensuring sustainable restoration over time. Advanced technologies and best practices will be used throughout this process.

The NCVC is dedicated to enhancing vegetation cover across Saudi Arabia, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity restoration and sustainable resource management. It oversees rangelands, forests, and national parks while addressing illegal logging activities. These efforts aim to promote the sustainable use of natural resources.

To assess the extent of degradation, the NCVC will employ remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Fieldwork will involve sampling soil, plants, and water, alongside conducting economic and social impact studies in targeted areas. Based on these findings, priority sites for rehabilitation will be identified, followed by detailed restoration plans.
