NCVC Implements Plan To Disperse 20 Tons Of Seeds For Rangeland Rehabilitation Across Saudi Arabia
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development & Combating Desertification (NCVC) has rolled out a detailed plan to restore natural rangelands in 15 sites across seven regions in Saudi Arabia. This initiative employs advanced machinery to boost vegetation, conserve soil, and lessen environmental harm. The project aims to rehabilitate over 15,000 hectares by distributing more than 20 tons of seeds from 37 plant species.
To ensure effective land restoration, the initiative will use over 50 specialized machines. These machines will handle tasks such as plowing, planting saplings, harvesting rainwater, and purifying and sorting materials. The selected locations include protected areas, rangelands, and floodplains in regions like Al-Jouf, Riyadh, Al-Qassim, Madinah, and Hail. Selection was based on strict criteria to maximize impact.

After the rehabilitation phase concludes, NCVC plans to begin a comprehensive follow-up and evaluation process. This will involve monitoring seasonal changes in vegetation cover and density. Soil analysis and environmental mapping will also be conducted using advanced technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), aerial imaging, and remote sensing to track vegetation distribution.
The NCVC is dedicated to developing and safeguarding vegetation cover sites throughout Saudi Arabia. Their efforts focus on rehabilitating degraded areas, identifying encroachments, combating illegal logging, and managing rangelands sustainably. These initiatives are crucial for promoting sustainable development and aligning with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
The initiative's success relies on modern equipment designed for various processes such as filtering, purifying, sorting, and collecting. By employing these technologies, the NCVC aims to enhance soil quality while mitigating negative environmental impacts.
In addition to rehabilitation efforts, the NCVC is committed to ongoing monitoring of vegetation cover sites across the Kingdom. This includes overseeing forests and national parks to ensure their sustainable management.
The comprehensive approach taken by the NCVC highlights its commitment to preserving Saudi Arabia's natural resources while supporting sustainable development goals within the framework of the Saudi Green Initiative.
