NCVC CEO Dr. Khaled Al-Abdulkader Reviews Firewood Recycling And Vegetation Efforts In Qassim
Dr. Khaled Al-Abdulkader, CEO of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), recently visited Al-Qassim National Park in Buraidah and Unayzah Forest. His visit aimed to evaluate the progress of vegetation enhancement and desertification control initiatives. He also reviewed the implementation of a plan for recycling reclaimed firewood.
The NCVC's mission includes overseeing national parks and protecting vegetation cover across Saudi Arabia. Al-Qassim National Park, located 18 kilometers northeast of Buraidah, is known for its rich plant diversity and serves as a habitat for wildlife such as gazelles and bustards. The park operates a nursery producing over 390,000 saplings to boost regional vegetation.

During his visit, Dr. Al-Abdulkader attended a ceremony led by Qassim Region Governor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz. The event marked the foundation laying for four new projects focused on developing vegetation cover through tree planting and seed scattering. Additionally, five projects aimed at rehabilitating degraded areas and enhancing biodiversity were inaugurated.
The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Alfadley, was present at the ceremony. Dr. Al-Abdulkader also participated in a meeting chaired by Alfadley where they interacted with local citizens. They addressed various questions related to vegetation cover and desertification combat efforts.
The NCVC is dedicated to developing, protecting, and monitoring vegetation cover while rehabilitating degraded areas. It plays a crucial role in detecting illegal logging activities and managing rangelands effectively. The center also focuses on forest protection and investment in national parks, contributing significantly to sustainable development goals.
By implementing these initiatives, the NCVC aims to enhance Saudi Arabia's natural landscapes while ensuring environmental sustainability. The ongoing efforts reflect a commitment to preserving biodiversity and combating desertification across the nation.
