NCM Launches New Regional Training Centre To Enhance Meteorological Expertise With WMO

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) recently opened a new Regional Training Centre in Abu Dhabi. This event was attended by Dr. Abdullah Al Mandous, Director-General of NCM and President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The inauguration included a seminar focusing on managing regional training centres across Africa, Asia, and the Southwest Pacific.

Omar Al Yazidi, Deputy Director-General of NCM, delivered an opening speech on behalf of Dr. Al Mandous. He highlighted the need to boost meteorological experts' skills to ensure accurate weather and climate data. This data is crucial for informed decision-making and supports sustainable development efforts. Al Yazidi also thanked the UAE government and Dr. Al Mandous for their ongoing support in enhancing regional and global capabilities in meteorology.

NCM Opens New Training Centre with WMO

Dr. Abdullah Al Mandous expressed his gratitude to seminar participants, praising their efforts and engagement. He stated that the seminar offers a perfect chance to improve cooperation among regional training centres, facilitating knowledge exchange and enhancing training standards in meteorology. "This gathering reflects our shared commitment to strengthening capacities and competencies in the field of meteorology worldwide, which is part of our vision to promote sustainable development and address the challenges of climate change," said Dr. Al Mandous.

Dr. Al Mandous emphasised that establishing the new centre is crucial for advancing professional skills in meteorology within the region. The centre will provide advanced training programs and resources to support ongoing professional growth. The seminar held alongside the inauguration saw participation from directors and representatives of regional training centres globally.

The seminar focused on improving coordination between regional centres and WMO’s education offices, developing training policies at both regional and global levels, and enhancing collaboration with the WMO Secretariat. It served as a platform for exchanging experiences among representatives, strengthening professional ties, and exploring new cooperation opportunities.

At the event's conclusion, NCM reiterated its commitment to supporting meteorological communities continuously. They aim to enhance these communities' abilities to tackle climate challenges effectively through ongoing support and capacity building initiatives.
