NCEMA Collaborates To Upgrade Weather Assessment System, Ensuring Public Safety

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), alongside the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), convened with other relevant government departments to address the latest weather developments. This Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team meeting underscored the critical need for maintaining business continuity plans and vigilant monitoring of the weather to safeguard public safety and minimize potential disruptions.

The NCM has provided an update indicating that the current weather event is not as severe as its predecessor. However, it forecasts local convective rain clouds starting today, Tuesday, through Wednesday, with a chance of small hail in the eastern regions, extending to some internal and western areas. From Wednesday night into Thursday, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in scattered locations, accompanied by occasional lightning and thunder, with small hail likely in the western regions, along coasts, and in some eastern areas.

Enhanced Weather System for Safety

As the week progresses into Friday and Saturday, there will be a decrease in cloud quantities but still a possibility of light to medium rain, potentially heavy in certain southern and eastern regions. The MoI has highlighted that the Supreme Committee for Internal Security is in full coordination with the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team, actively monitoring weather developments to evaluate all potential impacts on affected areas, especially during this recovery phase from the previous weather event.

The Ministry has proactively prepared to support response operations with necessary resources and capabilities in likely affected areas. It emphasizes the importance of community safety, urging the public to exercise caution, adhere to safety guidelines, avoid spreading rumors, and seek information from official sources only.

In anticipation of the adverse weather conditions, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has implemented measures to ensure infrastructure safety, including roads and dams. These measures involve draining water to alleviate pressure on dams in preparation for new rainfall and cleaning water drains. The Ministry credits advanced systems and modern technology in dam management for enhancing efficiency and enabling rapid decision-making during rainwater flows, floods, and flash floods monitoring in valleys.

Furthermore, modern technology plays a crucial role in analyzing water flow rates, quantities, and depths with high precision. This data is crucial for the Ministry's control and monitoring unit for effective processing and analysis.

This collaborative effort among UAE's key departments showcases a proactive approach towards managing weather-related challenges, prioritizing public safety and infrastructure resilience. By leveraging advanced technology and maintaining strong inter-departmental coordination, the UAE aims to mitigate the impact of severe weather conditions on its communities and vital sectors.
