NCA Enhances Cybersecurity Measures To Protect Hajj Systems And Services For Pilgrims

The National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) has revealed that over 300 national organisations and more than one million pilgrims have benefited from the "Cybersecurity Enhancement Program for the Hajj Season 1446 AH." This initiative aims to bolster cybersecurity readiness for technical systems and services supporting this year's Hajj. It also seeks to develop national cybersecurity skills and increase awareness among pilgrims and staff involved in the pilgrimage.

The program is structured around four key areas: monitoring and responding to cyber threats, conducting technical cybersecurity assessments, enhancing professional capabilities, and raising public awareness. These efforts are part of broader national initiatives to provide high-quality services to pilgrims. The NCA has activated its Cyber Operations Room, which functions around the clock during the Hajj season to assist participating national entities.

The Cyber Operations Room plays a crucial role by monitoring and analysing cyber threats in real time. It shares updates with relevant entities and coordinates immediate responses through specialised cyber incident response teams. This proactive approach ensures that any potential threats are addressed swiftly, maintaining secure operations for all involved in the pilgrimage.

In addition to threat monitoring, the NCA supports entities by conducting assessments to identify risks associated with digital assets and systems linked to Hajj services. These assessments help ensure uninterrupted operations, providing a secure environment for pilgrims throughout their journey.

This year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the NCA released the second edition of the Cyber Awareness Guide. Available in 16 languages, this guide promotes safe digital practices during Hajj and Umrah. It covers essential topics such as application security, system updates, two-factor authentication, strong password management, and protection against phishing and social engineering.

The guide also highlights safe internet browsing practices, emphasises regular data backups, and offers other practical advice to ensure secure digital behaviour during this year's Hajj season. By providing this information in multiple languages, the guide aims to reach a diverse audience of pilgrims from around the world.

Another significant aspect of the program is enhancing professional capabilities within national entities. By focusing on building skills related to cybersecurity, these efforts aim to create a workforce better equipped to handle potential cyber threats.
