Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi Opens With Focus On 13.8 Billion Years Of History
The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, has been officially inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. This museum, covering over 35,000 square metres, is the largest in the Middle East with a focus on the Arabian region.
The museum's opening enhances the UAE’s global cultural and scientific presence. It offers visitors a chance to explore 13.8 billion years of history, from the universe's creation to life on Earth. Interactive exhibits and immersive experiences unite knowledge and discovery in this landmark destination.
Among its highlights are rare meteorites and giant fossils, alongside reimagined scenes of Abu Dhabi’s ancient natural world. The museum also features interactive exhibitions and educational programmes that introduce visitors to the universe's history and biodiversity evolution.
The museum showcases significant palaeontological discoveries, including a complete herd of sauropods—giant dinosaurs with long necks—and five different species exhibited globally for the first time. A nearly complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton and a Triceratops specimen are also on display.
A specialised research centre within the museum focuses on palaeontology, biology, and environmental sciences. This centre contributes to expanding knowledge while supporting international efforts to protect nature for future generations.
The museum places education at its core, aiming to deepen scientific understanding through exhibits that narrate nature's story. It supports ongoing research and inspires future generations to explore Earth's natural worlds while safeguarding its treasures.

The museum will open to the public on 22 November 2025, offering an enriching educational experience for all ages. Visitors can embark on an interactive journey through time to discover the universe's history and life's evolution on Earth.
This institution joins other cultural landmarks in Saadiyat Cultural District like Louvre Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. Upcoming additions include Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
