UAE Launches National Schools For Sports Talents Programme To Nurture Young Athletes

The Ministry of Education (MoE), in partnership with the Ministry of Sports (MoS) and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), has introduced the National Schools for Sports Talents programme. This initiative aims to enhance school sports and support young athletes, aligning with the nation's vision. The programme will transform public schools into sports hubs, welcoming students of all nationalities to foster talent and develop national and school teams.

The initiative will operate in 46 public schools across the UAE, guided by over 110 certified coaches. Collaborating with 16 national sports federations and clubs, it will cover 16 team and individual sports. This structured system identifies and nurtures student athletes, enhancing their performance and preparing them for competitions. It supports students in reaching elite levels, enabling top athletes to represent the UAE internationally.

Eng. Mohammed Al Qasim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, emphasised that public schools are vital incubators for athletic talent in the UAE. He stated: "We, at the Ministry of Education, are enhancing physical education and school sports as core elements of student well-being. We are also working with the relevant entities to ensure school sports are integrated into national agendas and future plans."

Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector, highlighted that this project complements the School Sports Championship. He remarked: "The initiative aims to unify efforts, enhance coordination among all parties, develop school sports infrastructure and manage sports hubs effectively, creating a sustainable system for discovering and nurturing talent."

He praised participating sports federations for their role in engaging younger generations. "We are confident that the initiative will boost student participation in federations and athletes’ enrolment," he added. The Ministry's efforts in promoting school sports through advanced infrastructure were also commended.

A workshop held at the Emirates Center for Sports Science and Medicine gathered stakeholders to align visions for a successful programme launch. This collaboration ensures a comprehensive framework for developing school sports through partnerships between various ministries and national federations.

The National Schools for Sports Talents programme not only enhances physical education but also reinforces the UAE’s global position in school sports. By leveraging educational complexes as hubs of talent, creativity, and excellence, it complements existing efforts like the Physical Education, Sports and Health Programme launched this academic year.

This strategic initiative marks a significant step towards shaping the future of UAE sports by unifying efforts across different sectors. It aims to create an engaging environment that promotes student well-being while fostering social responsibility among young athletes throughout the nation.
