National Museum Hosts Three-Day Program For International Museum Day 2025 On Future Of Museums
The National Museum of Saudi Arabia will host a cultural event from May 15 to 17, 2025, to mark International Museum Day. The theme, "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities," focuses on cultural identity and sustainable development. This aligns with the Year of Handicrafts initiative. The program aims to highlight museums' roles in local economies by creating jobs and offering educational opportunities.
Museums are seen as vital for economic growth by generating employment and providing educational programs that empower communities. They also lead innovation by adopting new technologies and inspiring positive social change. This helps them keep up with global transformations. The event will include panel discussions and dialogue sessions to explore these themes further.

One session, organized with the Museums Commission, will feature Princess Haifa bint Mansour bin Bandar and Rola Al-Ghrair. They will discuss the future role of museums. Another interactive talk, hosted with the Royal Institute for Traditional Arts (WRTH), will focus on integrating Saudi folk tales and performing arts into museum experiences to engage younger audiences.
A session titled "Living Heritage in Rapidly Changing Communities" will be held with the Heritage Commission. It will address challenges facing intangible cultural heritage and explore ways to adapt it to modern lifestyles while ensuring its continuity. This is crucial for preserving cultural heritage amid rapid societal changes.
The program will conclude with workshops, live demonstrations, and musical performances showcasing traditional Saudi crafts and arts. These activities aim to provide an exceptional visitor experience that blends discovery, learning, and celebration of living heritage.
