UAE To Introduce Artificial Intelligence Curriculum For All Grades In 2025–2026 Academic Year
The global education landscape is evolving as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a key component of school curricula. Starting in the 2025–2026 academic year, UAE public schools will introduce AI as a formal subject from kindergarten to grade 12. This initiative aims to equip students with essential AI knowledge and skills, aligning with the UAE's vision of preparing future generations for rapid global changes.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, around 1,000 teachers will deliver the new AI curriculum across various educational stages. The curriculum is designed around seven key areas: fundamental concepts, data and algorithms, software usage, ethical awareness, real-world applications, innovation and project design, and policies and community engagement. It is tailored to meet the developmental needs of each age group.

Internationally, several countries are also advancing AI education in schools. Some integrate it within existing subjects, while others offer it as standalone courses. By embedding AI as a dedicated subject in school education, the UAE positions itself among pioneering nations in this field.
The new academic year in the UAE officially begins on Monday, August 25, 2025. It introduces updates that reinforce national efforts to establish a progressive education system aligned with national priorities. These updates aim to enhance the global competitiveness of education in the Emirates.
The Ministry of Education has announced a new standardised proficiency test for grades 4 to 11 in public schools. This test assesses core subjects like Arabic, Mathematics, and English. The first phase targets 26,000 students and aims to identify strengths and weaknesses in these critical areas.
This initiative focuses on assessing students' core competencies and identifying areas of weakness. It enables teachers to address learning gaps and provides the Ministry with a comprehensive view of students’ proficiency in these subjects.
Strengthening National Identity
In parallel with AI education advancements, mandatory guidelines for teaching Arabic, Islamic Education, and social concepts are being implemented at private kindergartens across the UAE. This initiative seeks to instill national values from an early age by nurturing a generation rooted in its identity and proficient in its mother tongue.
By integrating these subjects into early education stages, children become well-versed in family, community, and national geography concepts. This approach aims to nurture a generation firmly rooted in its national identity while being prepared for future challenges.
The UAE's commitment to integrating AI into school curricula reflects its dedication to fostering innovative solutions for future challenges. By equipping students with essential skills from an early age, the nation ensures they are prepared for rapid global changes while maintaining strong ties to their cultural roots.
