National Data Bank Strengthens Saudi Arabia's Data-Driven Digital Economy Initiatives
The National Data Bank (NDB), under the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), is enhancing national data quality and promoting data sharing across Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to foster a data-driven digital economy. NDB serves as the main data source for national decision-making platforms, supporting both public and private sectors, as well as individuals, in their data analysis efforts.
On World Statistics Day this year, NDB reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive data services. It operates through several digital platforms like Data Lake, Data Analytics Labs, Data Marketplace, National Data Catalog, and the Open Data Portal. These platforms facilitate efficient data management and sharing among various entities in the Kingdom.

Data Lake integrates information from over 325 government systems with continuous updates from original sources. Its goal is to become the unified data source in Saudi Arabia, reducing costs associated with inter-entity data exchange. The Data Analytics Labs offer government employees access to this data in a digital environment equipped with advanced AI technologies for analysis and report generation.
The Data Marketplace automates data-sharing processes among entities in Saudi Arabia. With over 420 services available, it allows entities to browse and subscribe to these services according to national governance policies. This platform encourages investment in data, generating revenue and contributing to a robust data-driven economy.
The National Data Catalog documents metadata related to government systems, performance indicators, and standards. It includes metadata from over 370 systems and more than 2,000 standards. This catalog helps users search for and understand national data assets, speeding up analysis processes while implementing management policies effectively.
The Open Data Portal enables individuals and entities to publish open data for end users like entrepreneurs. This empowers them to create digital products using available datasets, thus boosting the Kingdom's digital economy. Currently, it hosts over 9,400 datasets provided by various government bodies.
Achievements and Technological Impact
NDB has achieved significant milestones locally and internationally through its platforms. It was recognized as the Best Technology Project in Saudi Arabia for 2022 by the Project Management Institute’s Saudi branch. Additionally, it received the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2024 award for promoting ICTs for development.
SDAIA highlights that data and AI technologies are crucial in aiding statisticians by enhancing accuracy in analysis and forecasting. These technologies support applications such as big data analysis, statistical model development, time series analysis, text analysis, and improving sampling algorithms.
NDB's initiatives are pivotal in advancing Saudi Arabia's digital landscape by fostering efficient data management practices across sectors. Through its innovative platforms and recognition on global stages, NDB continues to play a vital role in shaping a sustainable digital economy within the Kingdom.
