National Committee Of Biosecurity Discusses 'Epidemic Preparedness Map' Project, National Biosecurity Framework

The National Committee of Biosecurity convened for its second meeting of 2024, focusing on a comprehensive agenda aimed at bolstering the UAE's biosecurity measures. Under the virtual chairmanship of Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, the committee delved into several pivotal topics, including the enhancement of mosquito control initiatives and the advancement of the Epidemic Preparedness Map Project and National Biosecurity Framework.

Dr. Al Dahak underscored the UAE's prioritisation of biosecurity, highlighting the nation's commitment to an integrated ecosystem that includes a strong legislative framework. "We are dedicated to ensuring sustainable national biosecurity across all emirates," she stated, emphasizing the concerted efforts to curb mosquito proliferation in light of recent exceptional weather conditions that led to record rainfall.

The committee's discussions extended to the execution of the 'National Biosecurity Framework 2023-2032', aiming for swift implementation in collaboration with various stakeholders. The meeting also spotlighted the Epidemic Preparedness Map Project, which promises to be a vital tool for technical teams from relevant authorities and academia.

Efforts to improve mosquito control were thoroughly reviewed, with strategies covering monitoring, coordination of control efforts across emirates, and public education on sustainable practices to mitigate mosquito populations.

Notable attendees included Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment; Major General Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior; and representatives from various other key UAE institutions.
