Nahyan Bin Mubarak Opens Third Global Conference Of UAE Council For Fatwa On Family Issues

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, inaugurated the third Global Conference of the UAE Council for Fatwa in Abu Dhabi. This event, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, aims to address family-related issues amidst rapid global changes. The conference theme is "The Family in the Context of Fiqh of Reality: National Identity and a Cohesive Society."

The conference aligns with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration of 2026 as the Year of Family. This highlights families' vital role in social stability, national identity, and human development. Sheikh Nahyan emphasised that empowering families is crucial for sustainable development.

Sheikh Nahyan praised H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak as a model for strengthening family cohesion and building a resilient society. He noted that linking jurisprudence with reality ensures Islamic values guide society with balance and awareness. The UAE Council for Fatwa, led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, promotes an objective-based approach to fatwa.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah highlighted the need for renewed ijtihad due to accelerating social and technological changes. He stressed that families are essential for societal peace, value formation, and identity protection. The conference addresses these themes over two days, focusing on family stability and digital transformation.

Ahmed Toufiq, Morocco's Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, commended the UAE for hosting this important conference. He emphasised aligning fiqh of reality with social legislation to preserve family cohesion. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Council for Fatwa, called for cooperation in addressing digital transformation's impact on families.

The discussions reflect the legacy of the UAE's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His vision prioritised family cohesion and social solidarity in nation-building efforts. The conference showcases national and international experiences in family empowerment.
